Volunteer Opportunities

Georgetown Eats Volunteer

For over 20 years, Friendship Place has served meals to the community. We need volunteers Monday through Friday to help serve and plate our hot meals for our guests. From 10:30 am – 12:30 pm, our volunteers help cook, set up, serve and clean up. Please consider volunteering your time and talents in the kitchen and our community room to serve our neighbors. 

Georgetown Eats Volunteer (Individuals or Groups)

Requirements: 

  • Food Handler Certification (ServSafe.com online class)
  • Background check 
  • Volunteer Application and Volunteer Health Policy Agreement
  • Time commitment of 2-4 hours; once per month
  • COVID-19 protocol followed

Mobile Food Trailer Volunteer

Georgetown Eats – Mobile Food Drive Trailer

A new enhancement to our Eats program, the Mobile Food Drive Trailer will travel to neighborhoods, churches, businesses, and other organizations to gather food for our neighbors once a month. Volunteers are needed to help unload the trailer, weigh the food, sort, store, and repackage items for distribution. Please consider volunteering your time and talents to assist with our Mobile Food Drive Trailer.

Mobile Food Drive Volunteer – Unloader (Individuals or Groups)

The primary responsibility of the Unloader is to lift/unload/move food supplies. This volunteer activity does require some heavy lifting (a minimum of 25 lbs.) and regular movement. 

Mobile Food Drive Volunteer – Food Sorter (Individuals or Groups)

The primary responsibility of a food sorter is to prepare food for storage/distribution by weighing, verifying, sorting, and repacking food items. This volunteer activity does require some heavy lifting (a minimum of 10 lbs.) and regular movement. Please consider volunteering your time and talents to assist with our Mobile Food Drive Trailer.

Requirements: 

  • Background Check 
  • Volunteer Application and Volunteer Health Policy Agreement 
  • Moving and arranging food to facilitate the distribution process
  • Time commitment of 2-4 hours; once per month
  • COVID-19 protocol followed

Georgetown Works Volunteer

Georgetown Works Volunteer

Our Georgetown Works program provides the soft skills needed to get a job or get a better job.  Volunteers are needed to be a mentor, guest speakers, and monitor other activities that pertain to this professional development program. Please consider volunteering your time and talents, mentoring, encouraging, and inspiring our neighbors.

Georgetown Prays Volunteer

Georgetown Prays is a simple effort to reach out and pray with our neighbors. As we gather from different areas and churches, we come together as a community to simply pray. There is no counseling or proselytizing, just a time of encouragement.

Requirements:

  • Prayer Team Training 
  • Background Check 
  • Mandatory meeting with Lead Volunteer Pastor
  • Volunteer Application and Volunteer Health Policy Agreement 
  • Time commitment varies
  • COVID-19 protocol followed

Georgetown Learns Volunteer

Literacy Tutor

A new Partnership with a local non-profit that focuses on literacy, Georgetown Learns is a Georgetown site for Freedom Readers. Freedom Readers operates on a 1:1 literacy tutoring platform with scholars for an after-school program for K-5 grades. Please consider volunteering your time and talents to work with our youth.

Assistant Team Leader

Assistant Team Leaders are responsible for assisting the Site Team Leader by reaching out to their site’s assigned tutors and the assigned scholars’ caregivers prior to the start of a session as a way of introduction and filling in for the Team Leader in case they are absent. 

Requirements:

  • Background Check 
  • Volunteer Application and Volunteer Health Policy Agreement 
  • Time commitment: 9 weeks – Every Thursday from 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm
  • COVID-19 procedures
  • Full onboarding and training conducted by Freedom Readers (Moodle Database and Darkness
    to Light training on child sexual abuse prevention)
